  17. <p>     Remember the October Surprise? Allegations that the Reagan
  18. campaign committee secretly negotiated with the Iranians back
  19. in 1980, trading future concessions for a delay in releasing
  20. U.S. hostages until after the election, are about to get a
  21. second wind at a most inconvenient time for President Bush. In
  22. some of the most vicious political infighting in years, House
  23. Democrats are moving, against all-out Republican opposition, to
  24. fund an investigation to be headed by Indiana's Lee Hamilton.
  25. President Bush reportedly attended a meeting of House
  26. Republicans last week in which opposition strategy was
  27. discussed. A floor battle and vote are expected this week.
  28. Meanwhile, Senate leader George Mitchell is planning his own
  29. inquiry.
